The Crisis: Deteriorating copper pipes.
Six buildings with 18 medical suites, and up to 16 water and sewer connections per suite, were built with copper pipes ranging from 1/2-inch up to 2-inches in diameter. The pipes were old and leaking.
Reviewing the Tri-City Medical Park project, independent CuraFlo dealer Bill Brink noted that both hot and cold pipes were sprouting pinhole leaks due to the effects of water corrosion and deterioration. The pipes clearly needed to be restored. But tenant operations could not be shut down during regular business hours.
The solution: CuraFlo Epoxy Lining
As the CuraFlo work crew tackled each suite or section of the Tri-City piping system, they drained and then dried the isolated portion by sending heated, dry, oil- and moisture- free compressed air through the pipe. Then the pipes were cleaned by shooting silica corundum down the line that blasts away corrosion and encrustation.
Finally, the inside of the pipes were coated with CuraPoxy® epoxy pipe coating material. The CuraFlo system is capable of coating runs up to 100 feet in length while maintaining the proper uniform epoxy coverage on the inside diameter of the pipes. The barrier coating cures in just 5 hours with warm air, which allows near immediate return to service.
The outcome.
CuraFlo stayed ahead of schedule, and got the job done without having to relocate tenants. Costs were kept under control. And the building now has a plumbing solution that won’t require repeated spot fixes in the future.
